TXWES alumna and professor gives back as 3PR co-director

08.29.2017 | By: Texas Wesleyan University
Michelle Payne, Professor of Political Science at Texas Wesleyan University

Texas Wesleyan University has been home to many students throughout its 126 years of service. One of these previous students is Dr. Michelle Payne. Not only is Dr. Payne an alumni but she is now a tenured faculty member, Pre-Law advisor and Co-Director of the M.D. Anderson Pre-Professional Program (3PR) at Texas Wesleyan.

Dr. Payne received her Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree, and Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan. “To come back now, as a professor, and to be able to give back to our students through advising, mentoring, classroom and other activities, could not be more rewarding, both personally and professionally,” Professor Payne, said.

During her undergraduate time at Texas Wesleyan, she was involved in several different programs but one program stood out, 3PR. 3PR is a unique Texas Wesleyan Program that assists students with the rigorous graduate and professional school application process. It was from this program she learned not only about professional schools but how to be a professional both inside and outside of the University.

The skills she acquired and honed during her time in the 3PR program were a big factor in landing her a full scholarship to law school. “The benefits I gained from all of those years ago have carried over to this day” she states. She also attributes her professional successes to the mentorship and skills learned while in the 3PR program.
