Jim Lewis, Texas Wesleyan’s vice president for advancement, was honored with the Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award at the 31st Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Nov. 18 in Dallas. Lewis was recognized among the top fundraising professionals in North Texas for his remarkable, decades-long commitment to fundraising and development.

The award was presented by the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals at their annual luncheon to recognize all those whose experience, quality of leadership and commitment to philanthropy are demonstrated through their actions.

“Jim is an excellent representative of the fundraising profession and is highly deserving of this distinguished award,” Texas Wesleyan University President Frederick G. Slabach said. “We are fortunate to have him as a part of our Texas Wesleyan family.”

Since Lewis joined Texas Wesleyan in 2014, the University has achieved new fundraising records, including significant increases in annual outright gifts and new pledges and a more than 30 percent increase in the number of alumni donors.

Many other institutions have benefitted from Lewis’ extensive fundraising experience. He began his career in fundraising at Southern Methodist University and went on to spearhead significant institutional improvements at Millsaps College, Austin College, The University of Texas at Arlington, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Lone Star.

During his time at UT Arlington, the development program quadrupled its annual outright gifts and new pledges, earning the university national recognition as one of the two most improved public university fundraising programs in the country.

Lewis’ success can be contributed in part to his dedication to building genuine, life-long friendships with constituents and colleagues. He is passionate about connecting with others, a trait that is evident through active volunteerism in his community, church and professional associations.

Lewis has been an active member of the Association of Fund Raising Professionals and the Council for the Support and Advancement of Education since the early 1980s.
