About Boosting Student Success in Spring 2021

TXWES faculty are dedicated to teaching students and engaging with them in the university’s Smaller. Smarter. way. Doing this work during a pandemic presents new challenges for both faculty and students. To help faculty address issues related to classroom engagement, the CETL is hosting four faculty-development events in December.

Boosting Student Success in Spring 2021 Schedule

  • Friday, Dec. 4: Ingenuity in the Classroom (Optional Roundtable)
    • 12-12:45 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 11: Supporting All Students in the College Classroom: Setting Explicit Expectations
    • Self-paced module. Approx. 60 min.
  • Monday & Tuesday, Dec. 14 & 15: Engage Students in the Virtual Classroom
    • Interactive. One hour.
    • Offered both days 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., as well as 6 pm on Tuesday.
    • Each session limited to 40 participants.
      • During a lesson in which presenters review key points from the “Supporting All Students in the College Classroom: Explicit Expectations” video series, attendees will participate in simple activities they can replicate in the class to engage students. The focus of this session is not how to use particular tools; it is the activities themselves.
  • Monday & Tuesday, Dec. 14 & 15: Transparent Assignment Design
    • 1-hour presentation followed by a 1-hour workshop. Two hours.
    • Offered both days at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as 6 p.m. on Monday.
      • Results from a study conducted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas revealed that retention between the spring of freshman year and the fall of sophomore year increased by 15% when faculty implemented transparent assignment design. Visit www.tilthighered.com for more information.

Participants must register for both the Transparent Assignment Design and Engage Students in the Virtual Classroom workshops. Registration link provided via email.
