During summer break, the facilities team is in high gear improving Texas Wesleyan’s campus for students, faculty and staff. Here are some major projects currently underway:

SLT Renovations

The Science Lecture Theater (SLT) in McFadden Science Center, built in 1967, is being renovated to create a whole new learning environment. The facilities team is overseeing the replacement of the floor, vinyl wall coverings, lighting and auditorium seats. At the same time, a high-tech smart board and HD projector are also being installed in the teaching space. The updated lecture hall will be ready for students and faculty this fall.

West Express Eatery

Facilities has begun to transform the north side of the Baker Building into the new West Express Eatery (WEE). Grille Works, a favorite campus dining area for burgers, fries, sandwiches, burritos and more, was formerly located in the Brown-Lupton campus center. In order to offer the same food options and space, a full grill and hood will be added to the current Baker Building kitchen and the seating area will be expanded.

New weight room for student athletes

Construction has started to turn the dining area of the Brown-Lupton Campus Center into a new athletic weight room. Facilities is overseeing the addition of rubber flooring and new lighting fixtures as well as repurposing the former Grille Works kitchen into a laundry area. Student athletes, including the football redshirt leadership class, will have access to the facility starting this fall. Later this summer, Grille Works is moving to its new location in the Baker Building once renovations to the space are complete.

West Village refresh

While students are gone for the summer, West Village residence hall is getting a makeover. The facilities team is repainting all residential rooms, overseeing the replacement of the floor with wood laminate and updating the showers. The common areas where students can do homework and hang out together are being updated as well. Students moving into the residence hall in the fall will feel as if it’s a whole new space.

New football coaching offices

At the height of the football recruitment process, the football coaching staff is settling into their new office on the third floor of the Sid W. Richardson Center. The space includes three offices and a conference room setup. There is also a casual seating area for athletes and their families to meet with Coach Prud’homme and his staff. A video viewing space for reviewing game tape is near completion.
