Students sign foundation during Martin University Center signing event

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and alumni took advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leave their mark on the new Nick & Lou Martin University Center during a foundation signing event on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Participants entered into the $20.25 million, 44,000-square-foot, building for the first time and left their names and inspirational messages and notes on the center’s foundation, led in by Student Government Association President Alyssa Hutchinson.

“The Martin University Center is an astounding building that literally and figuratively will be the heart of our campus,” said Fredrick G. Slabach, president of Texas Wesleyan University. “It will create a hub of activity and connections and increase our student’s opportunities for success and prepare them for graduation.”

The event included a blessing of the building by University Chaplain Dr. Gladys Childs and participants enjoyed a free hot chocolate and coffee bar. Construction of the new student center is scheduled to be complete this summer and ready to open in the fall of 2019.
