Scholarship Policy & Rules

There are a few important things to know about your Texas Wesleyan institutional scholarship. See the policy below and contact the Office of Financial Aid with any questions you may have.

Enrollment course load status

Students must enroll as full-time students in order to receive full-time financial aid. Full-time enrollment status for undergraduate students is defined as being enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at Texas Wesleyan University each semester. Full-time enrollment status for graduate students is defined as being enrolled in at least 9 credit hours at Texas Wesleyan University each semester. Scholarship awards will be prorated for students who enroll in less than a full-time status based on the percentage of full-time enrollment. For example, if a student is enrolled in 9 credit hours, they would receive 75% (or ¾) of the full-time scholarship amount for that semester of part-time enrollment. Once the student resumes full-time enrollment status the scholarship will be awarded at the full amount.

Failure to maintain scholarship's GPA requirement

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher must be earned to maintain scholarship eligibility. Undergraduate transfer credits count as earned credits and affect the GPA. Students who fall below a 2.0 cumulative GPA may appeal for scholarship renewal. See the process below for a student that does not meet the GPA requirements stated in their scholarship package.

  • 1st semester: Student is awarded a TXWES scholarship based on grades and/or test scores
  • 2nd semester: Student does meet the cumulative GPA requirement at the end of semester 1 and goes on probation. A 'Financial Aid Hold' is placed on the student's account until the student meets with the Academic Success Center
  • 3rd semester: Student again does not meet the cumulative GPA requirement at the end of semester 2 and the scholarship is suspended with the option to appeal. A 'Financial Aid Hold' is placed on the student's account until the student meets with the Academic Success Center
  • 4th semester: If, after a successful appeal, the student again fails to meet the cumulative GPA requirement, the scholarship is suspended with no option to appeal

If the student reestablishes the cumulative GPA requirement at any point during the timeframe outlined above, then the student will be considered in good standing.

Programs and classes not funded by TXWES scholarships

Study abroad

Texas Wesleyan scholarships cannot be used for classes or fees associated with the Study Abroad program. However, there is other financial aid such as grants, loans and outside scholarships that you can use to cover the cost.

Consortium classes

Texas Wesleyan scholarships cannot be used to pay for classes through the online College Consortium.

Summer scholarship policy

Students have the option to use their scholarships to pay for classes taken during the summer. They're eligible to use the same amount allotted for fall and spring semesters if enrolled in at least 12 credit hours. If enrolled in less than 12 credit hours, the scholarship is prorated.
