See the new art studio while celebrating Prof. Mary Apple

Mary Apple was an integral part of Texas Wesleyan and we want to honor her memory and the impact she had on students during Alumni Reunion Weekend on April 23 at the Mary Apple Art Exhibition. To celebrate the 125th year of Texas Wesleyan, art faculty members have curated an exhibition showcasing select pieces of Mary’s art. The works chosen for this exhibit are representations of her wonderfully creative mind and expert technical skill as a printmaker.

Current Professor of Art, Kit Hall had the following to say about Mary:

“Mary was a blithe spirit and a creative force at Texas Wesleyan. She had an infectious laugh. I was speaking recently to a Wesleyan alumnus who had double majored in Art and Education. We had the best time remembering funny details about Mary. Mary was not above subversive behavior to have a little fun. She took her art and advocacy of the arts very seriously but she had a healthy disregard for authority. Without doubt faculty members who have been at Texas Wesleyan the longest have their own memories about Mary. Some of which could surely add to the myth and lore of this university.”

We will be serving two of Mary’s favorites, strawberries and cheap Champaign from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Bernice Coulter Templeton Art Studio (The old Polytechnic Firehouse). Visitors will also be able to tour this historical building.
