February is Black History Month, which recognizes the contributions, achievements and the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. We celebrate the Black history being made today and every day

1. Black History Month Kick Off Celebration

This event has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m.

Join the Diversity and Inclusion Council upstairs in the Martin University Center to officially kick off Black History Month! Enjoy soul food, games, a student-owned Black businesses showcase and Black history trivia.

2. Dress up for Spirit Week

This week’s fit check? Clothes that fit into the different day’s theme.

Monday, Feb. 6 – Wear all Black in Support of Black Lives Matter (BLM)

Tuesday, Feb. 7 – Dress up as your favorite Black influencer

Wednesday, Feb. 8 – Wakanda Forever Wednesday

Thursday, Feb. 9 – Throwback Thursday, Hip-Hop and R&B edition

3.  Make a Valentine with BSA’s Rose Stop

The Black Student Association (BSA) is hosting a “Rose Stop” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14 on the first floor of the Martin University Center. You can grab a snack, make a Valentine’s Day card and get a rose to gift to a significant other or friend.

4. Get moving with BSA’s Skate Night

BSA will also be having a skate night at Rollerland West (7325 Calmont Ave.). Come make some new friends, support your RAMily and strap on those rollerblades from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.

5. Learn from Black authors

Stop by the West Library and check out the book display from Black authors and quotes from various prominent figures.

6. Celebrate Christene C. Moss at Black Coffee

Support our local Black-owned coffee shop, Black Coffee. The coffee shop is just steps away from campus and will be celebrating Christene C. Moss on her birthday, Feb. 11, by displaying her accomplishments and serving her favorite drinks. Moss was the first female African American board president for Fort Worth ISD and is a Master School Board Trustee of Leadership Texas Association of School Boards. She is an advocate for all children, passionate about literacy and has fought for equity in FWISD.

You can also support Black Coffee all year long by stopping in for a drink or snack! The shop offers coffee, including a honey lavender latte and caramel apple matcha latte, tea, hot chocolate, breakfast tacos and an assortment of baked goods.
