AVID is presenting a six-hour workshop called “Disrupting Deficit Narratives” from 9 a.m. to noon on May 25 and 26.

Deficit narratives focus on characteristics we ascribe to individuals or categories of individuals, such as “at-risk.” This workshop focuses on how equitable teaching leads to improved outcomes for all students by increasing their motivation to learn. How? By ensuring they feel “seen,” which leads to better academic performance.
