Research is a great way for you to apply what you're learning in the classroom to real-world problems. In the chemistry department, you have several ways to get involved in undergraduate research. The department gets funding from organizations such as the Robert A. Welch Foundation and the United Methodist Church through the Sam Taylor Fellowships.
The University is also an institutional member of the Council on Undergraduate Research, while some faculty members hold individual memberships to specialty divisions.
As a chemistry or biochemistry major, you're required to complete at least two semesters of undergraduate research mentored by one of your professors. This gives you the chance to take the chemistry foundation you're learning in the classroom and put it into practice in the lab.
