Mass Comm professors receive certification to teach online and hybrid courses

In the summer of 2017, Drs. Kay Colley, Ngozi Akinro, and Carol Johnson-Gerendas completed the Fundamentals of Online Teaching (FOOT) certification course. The professors studied how to design, develop, and facilitate student-centered hybrid and online courses that engage students. Colley and Akinro began teaching hybrid and online courses in spring 2018.

Professor Cummings is going through the FOOT course this semester and Dr. Dave Ferman will be completing the course this summer.

This fall these classes will be offered:

Hybrid format

  • MCO 1302 Mass Media & Society
  • MCO 2300 Practicum 
  • MCO 2310 Digital Production
  • MCO 2342 Communication and Rhetoric
  • MCO 3316 Feature Writing & Production

Online format

  • MCO 1302 Mass Media & Society
  • MCO 4399 Mass Media War & Terrorism
  • MCO 4318 International and Intercultural Communication
  • MCO 4301 Media Laws & Ethics
  • MCO 4300 Internship
  • MCO 3351 Survey of Public Relations 

Dr. Kay Colley, Mass Communication Department Chairwoman and Associate Professor of Mass Communication, wants to give students as many options as possible when it comes to their education.

“We've expanded how we offer our courses to offer our students greater options," Colley said.  "We will continue to do this to meet the needs of our students.”
