Dr. Paul Sikes, assistant professor of music, was recently elected vice president, college division, of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Currently celebrating their centennial, the Texas Music Educators Association is an organization of over 12,000 elementary, secondary and college music teachers and professors dedicated to promoting excellence in music and music education. TMEA is comprised of five divisions: band, orchestra, vocal, elementary and college.

As a member of the Executive Board, Dr. Sikes will help set TMEA policy, which governs the all-state and honor group processes for thousands of students across Texas. The executive board also carefully monitors the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction in Texas, including the state’s higher education coordinating board. In addition to setting policy, the executive board is responsible for planning the annual clinic and convention, which typically draws over 30,000 national and international attendees, making it one of the largest music conferences in the world.
