Theatre alum Jordana Abrenica '13 has received a nomination from the Drama Desk for their work on the hit Off-Broadway production of Beau the Musical. The show was among the two productions that led the Drama Desk Award nominations with 10 total nods each. The production is up for Outstanding Musical, among other categories.

Abrenica is among the five designers nominated for Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical. The Drama Desk Awards recognize New York productions both on and Off-Broadway. Other nominees include the sound designers of the Broadway production of Ragtime, and the Off-Broadway productions of The Baker's WifeMexodus, and Lights Out: Nat "King" Cole. Winners will be named during a ceremony set for May 17 at Town Hall in New York City.

Beau features eight actor-musicians telling the story of Ace Baker – a young queer man whose life is forever changed when he discovers his deceased grandfather is actually still alive. Family secrets unravel as Ace rushes to make up for lost time with a man who changes his life by putting a guitar in his hand. Now confronted with buried memories, family secrets, and strained relationships, Ace must find his way and rediscover his voice. A coming-of-age like no other – Beau the Musical blends an immersive pop-country score with a story of love, family, and redemption. The production was directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes, with concept, book, music, and lyrics by Douglas Lyons, and music by Ethan D. Pakchar.

The production closed on January 4, 2026, at St. Luke's Theatre. BroadwayWorld called it "one of this year's most successful Off-Broadway productions".

Congratulations and "break a leg" to our member of the Ramily!
