Theatre Scholarships

We're excited that you're interested in our program, and we invite you to spend a day with our students. Visit days give you the chance to experience a day in the life of Theatre Wesleyan — from classes to campus life.

Plus, potential theatre majors are eligible for scholarships based on an interview or audition with our faculty and just by visiting the campus with admissions. Here's what you can expect during your visit:

  • Joining students in the Technical Theatre and Acting classes
  • Your scholarship audition or interview
  • Free lunch
  • Visit with your admissions counselor
  • Campus and theatre facility tour
  • See a Theatre Wesleyan show (on select dates) 
  • School excuse note (for high school students)

Step 1: Apply to Texas Wesleyan University

There are two ways for you to start your application to Texas Wesleyan. You can either fill out the university application or complete the Apply Texas application.

Step 2: Schedule an audition or interview

After you have applied and been accepted to Texas Wesleyan, you will schedule your theatre scholarship audition or interview. Log into your Admissions Portal and click on the "Theatre Scholarship Audition/Interview" checklist link to submit your details.

After completing the form, a theatre department faculty or staff member will contact you via email. The visit will be on a Tuesday or Thursday that best accommodates scheduling and will last from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Please provide 2-3 potential dates that best fit your schedule.

Step 3: Prepare based on your intended degree plan

Here's a breakdown of what you need to prepare for your scholarship audition or interview.

BFA In Acting

Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting degree will need to prepare:

  • Two contrasting monologues, each 1-2 minutes in length
    • Examples: comedic and dramatic, or classic and contemporary, etc.
  • Resume
  • Headshot (optional)
BFA In Musical Theatre

Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre degree will need to prepare:

  • Two short contrasting musical theatre selections, 16-32 bars each
    • Please provide your own accompaniment or recording; Bluetooth speaker is allowed
  • One monologue, 1 minute in length
  • Resume
  • Headshot (optional)
BFA In Design & Technology

Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design & Technology degree will need to prepare:

  • A portfolio or display (hard copy or digital) of your theatrical work and experience
    • Please provide your own laptop or tablet, if needed
  • Resume

Please note: Portfolio reviews and interviews do not take place in the theatre facility; you will not have access to any equipment, i.e., soundboard, light board, mannequin, etc.

BA in Theatre

Students interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre degree should prepare either an audition or an interview based on the following requirements:

  • Students interested in performance and directing:
    • Two contrasting monologues, each 1-2 minutes in length
      • Examples: comedic and dramatic, or classic and contemporary, etc.
    • Resume
    • Headshot (optional)
  • Students interested in technical theatre:
    • A portfolio or display (hard copy or digital) of your theatrical work and experience
      • Please provide your own laptop or tablet, if needed
    • Resume

For students interested in technical theatre: Portfolio reviews and interviews do not take place in the theatre facility; you will not have access to any equipment, i.e., soundboard, light board, mannequin, etc.

Scholarship offers are made to potential theatre majors who have been accepted to Texas Wesleyan. Because scholarships are limited, priority consideration is given to those who audition or interview early.
