Student interns share their experience during the Fall 2018 joint Accounting Society and Finance Club meeting.

With the beginning of a new semester, the School of Business wants to make sure their students are equipped with first hand on the job experience.

Organizations like the Accounting Society and Finance Club are helping students learn about internships. During a joint meeting, the organizations invited students who worked as interns to share their experience with others.

ARIES VAZQUEZ

Aries Vazquez, a finance major, interned for POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) Care.

POTS Care is a medical clinic that specializes in what they call “invisible illnesses” such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Vazquez worked as a digital marketing intern, but also assisted in all areas. His main focus consisted of web development and encrypted messages for patients.

“They said they would put me on the team and told me I would learn something new every day.” Vazquez said “That’s exactly what happened.”

By the end of the internship, Vazquez gained experience working on over 40 different software packages.

JARED ARCHER

Jared Archer a senior with a double major in accounting and finance, interned at Whitley Penn.

While at Whitley Penn, a public accounting firm, Archer was given tasks working with lawyers on cases including the forensic analysis of bank and credit card statements, summarizing hearing and deposition transcripts and other various research assignments.

“I received real hands on experience and saw what lawyers deal with.” Archer said.

Whitley Penn offered a position to Archer which he will be taking post-graduation.

KENDYL LOPEZ

Kendyl Lopez, a management major, gained experience from C.H Robinson, a third party logistics and Transportation Company.

The interview process was very serious due to the company seeking applicants who would be offered a job at the end of a 12 week period.

Lopez wasn’t confined to the title of intern and was encouraged to find where she best fit in the company.

“They will teach you everything you want to know. You only have to be ambitious and determined.” Lopez said.

The engagement extends pass the office with each department holding social functions to promote networking, personal development, and charitable causes.

Lopez had many great things to say about the company and her experience.

“They are always looking for candidates and I would love for people to reach out to me for more information,” Lopez said.

Although Kendyl denied the job offer after her internship, she will never forget her experience with C.H Robinson.
