About Professor Bell

"Galileo once said, '… you cannot teach a person anything; you can only help him find it within himself.' This is my teaching philosophy to promote intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm. I strive to inspire student learning by encouraging critical and creative thinking through Socratic instruction and through classroom discourse, integrating current business and world news events into the class learning environment, and trying to demonstrate my enthusiasm for teaching.

"My view is the faculty-student relationship should be based on mutual respect. I want to give students the basic understanding and application of business principles, and enable them to work with each other in groups, be creative, and to effectively communicate their ideas and concerns."

Dr. Bell has been working at Texas Wesleyan since 1995 and teaches business Management of Information Systems for both undergraduates and graduate-level students. "The culture of Texas Wesleyan is one that encourages and nurtures the students and faculty, and that makes for a good learning environment. I want students to know that I'm personally invested in their success and I live vicariously through their accomplishments. I'm here to facilitate their learning so they can fully reach their potential. My measure of success is if a student achieves a zeal for learning that goes beyond a resume or grade point average."

He is fond of teaching introduction to business classes because, "it introduces freshmen students to fundamental business concepts," as well as systems analyst and design. "It's just a fun class for students and myself, it shows how technology is used in a business system and how technology helps to achieve business objectives."

Outside of the classroom, Dr. Bell enjoys playing golf and watching his son play ice hockey. He also strives to stay current on business literature and research. "I stalwartly believe that continual learning and growth is realized through scholarly research and that is intertwined and inseparable with teaching effectiveness."
