Nurse Anesthesia alumni published in AANA journal

05.08.2017 | By:

Dr. Jill Mason-Nguyen, an alumna of the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP), contributed to the April 2017 issue of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Journal.

There are approximately 48,000 certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) providing care in all settings in the United States. Less than one percent of CRNAs publish yearly. By publishing in the AANA Journal, Dr. Mason-Nguyen is able to share clinical information that fosters the understanding of the science of anesthesia delivery and innovations that advance the practice of nurse anesthesia.

Dr. Mason-Nguyen article, titled Laryngeal Mask Airway Use in Morbidly Obese Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia, focuses on examining the safety and efficacious of LMAs vs endotracheal intubation in the morbidly obese adults (BMI > 35 kg/m). Obesity patients have a unique risk of airway complications, including difficult mask ventilation, difficult laryngoscopy, difficult intubation and aspiration.

Published bimonthly, the AANA Journal delivers practical clinical information that fosters the understanding of the science of anesthesia delivery and investigates ideas, issues and innovations that advance the practice of nurse anesthesia.

Other titles included in the journal are Pain Management Efficacy Study Between Continuous and Single-Administration Bupivacaine Following Lumbar Spinal Fusion, Propofol: Review of Potential Risks During Administration, and Considerations of Epidural Analgesia in a Patient With Suspected Uterine Rupture.
