Special Operations Medical Association

Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA) Conference Dr. Brian Cornelius and six students recently attended the SOMA Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. These six students were chosen to participate in the first of its kind, 2-month trauma-related rotation as a part of their clinical residency within the Graduate Programs of Nurse Anesthesia. This rotation is funded through a grant awarded to Texas Wesleyan from the Higher Education Coordinating Board in Texas. This grant attempts to improve trauma care and survivability for Texas citizens. The conference brought together practitioners in prehospital, tactical, disaster, and military medicine. In addition to this conference, the GPNA students will complete experiences with prehospital ground and air teams, emergency departments, anesthesia services, and intensive care units. Having this full-circle optic of trauma care will allow these soon-to-be nurse anesthetists to provide the highest quality care to the Texas trauma patient.
