Free Tuition Promise

Invest in Your Future, Not in Tuition

Need affordable college options? Our TXWES Tuition Promise program is the answer.

Starting in fall 2025, Texas Wesleyan’s Tuition Promise program helps first-time college students who are Texas residents and qualify for the full federal Pell Grant award receive a scholarship to cover the remaining cost of tuition at Texas Wesleyan University. Complete your FAFSA application and TXWES admissions application to two-step your way into free tuition — stacking dollar bills on bills for your higher education.

Do I Qualify?

1. Be a Texas Resident

To be considered a Texas resident, you or your parent/guardian must have lived in Texas and made it your permanent home for at least 12 months before you start college.

2. Be a first-year College Student

A first-time college student is someone who is attending college for the first time after graduating from high school.

3. Complete Your FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a free form that helps students apply for financial aid for college. It determines eligibility for federal aid like grants, work-study and loans, and is also used by colleges to decide how much aid a student can receive. The form requires tax information and bank balances. You can complete the FAFSA online by creating an ID, which allows access to your financial aid information later.

Complete the FAFSA Application to see if you are eligible for the full Pell Grant.

4. Be Fully Pell Grant Eligible

Pell Grants are awarded to students with high financial need. Pell Grants do not need to be repaid. To qualify for the TXWES Tuition Promise, your FAFSA must show full Pell Grant eligibility. You'll need to complete the FAFSA each year to maintain your eligibility for up to four years.

5. Enroll as a Full-Time Student

To be considered a full-time student, you'll need to take at least 12 credits, equaling about four classes each semester.

6. Renew Your Scholarship

Students can renew their free tuition for up to four years if they remain enrolled full-time and maintain a 2.0 GPA. They may also be eligible for additional scholarships and financial aid to cover costs for books and room and board. Our advice: Keep those grades up and that tuition affordable.
