Dr. Mary Anne Clark to receive Wesleyan Flame Award at Alumni Medal Dinner

09.16.2019 | By:

Dr. Clark graduated with a degree in biology from Texas Woman’s University and received an MS, also in biology, from New Mexico State. After working several years as a lab tech, first in the Weeds Lab at NMSU and then at the medical school at the University of Missouri, she decided to go back to school and graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a Ph.D. in biology in 1972.

Dr. Clark’s first teaching job was at UTA. She began teaching at Texas Wesleyan in 1979. She has enjoyed the opportunity to work beyond the boundaries of the biology department in various cross-disciplinary ventures, including the Humanities class, the Wesleyan Aegis program and the Wesleyan Honors program. Dr. Clark also teaches a non-majors genetics class through the virtual world of Second Life.

Mary Anne is active in numerous community organizations such as the WhoZoo, Wesleyan Oratorio Chorus, Adopt a School Programs and many more. She also supports the Tarrant Literacy Coalition and is the reigning champion of TLC’s Corporate Spelling Bee. She and fellow faculty members Bruce McDonald and Marilyn Pugh – named The Texas Wesleyan Crushers – have won first place at this event four years in a row. Her accolades at Texas Wesleyan include Engaging Educator Award (2015), BOT Award for Scholarship (2013), BOT Award for Excellence in Teaching (2008) and the Earl Brown Distinguished Faculty Award (2010).

Help us celebrate Dr. Clark and her longtime dedication to Texas Wesleyan at the Alumni Medal Dinner on Friday, Oct. 18, in the Martin University Center.
