Joint Color Guards to Present Colors at The Global Clasico

08.08.2022 | By:

It is not often that the color guards from the Fort Worth police and fire departments collaborate on the presentation of colors at events — let alone at an international college football game being held in the City of Fort Worth.

Members of both color guards will be presenting the United States and Mexico’s colors during the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner and the Mexican National Anthem at the Global Clasico on Saturday, Aug. 27, where Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES) will take on Arkansas State University - Campus Querétaro (ASUCQ).

“The Fort Worth Police Department Honor Guard is thankful for the opportunity to participate in this monumental event,” said Honor Guard Supervisor Sgt. Jason Ricks.” We are excited to be able to stand alongside our public safety partners at the Fort Worth Fire Department Honor Guard in presenting the national colors of both of these teams and to be representing the City of Fort Worth, the greatest city in the nation.”

“The Fort Worth Fire Department Honor Guard would like to extend our deepest thanks for being afforded the opportunity to represent our great country and wonderful city,” said Honor Guard Commander, Engineer Kevin Bury. “We are humbled to serve with our brothers and sisters in blue at this international event.”

The game, which is brought to you by The National Bank of Texas at Fort Worth (NBT), will not only host this international team, spectators and fans, but also give Texas Wesleyan the opportunity to celebrate our Hispanic community right here in Fort Worth.

“Texas Wesleyan University is ranked among the most diverse national universities and is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution,” said University President Fredrick G. Slabach. “We are focused on continuing to provide a diverse and inclusive student experience, and the Global Clasico is another example of us fulfilling that mission. It is an honor to have FWPD and FWFD color guards collectively present the colors of both nations at the game.”

The Global Clasico will be played at the historic Farrington Field in Fort Worth, Texas. Pre-game events, including a concert, will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets for the Global Clasico, and other gameday information can be found at txwes.edu/globalclasico
