West Library will host a Mitchell-Reed Community of Learners lecture at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Library Orientation Room.

Lili Zhang, Associate Professor of Religion, will present “The spurious clash of cultures in the trade war between America and China.” More and more people have found that the China-U.S. conflict is about more than trade. This conflict has been commonly viewed as the cultural clash between individualistic America and collectivistic China. This view is of no benefit to understanding the trade war nor to understanding both China and the U.S. This lecture will unfold that the real clash is the ideological clash between entrepreneur capitalism and national capitalism. That clash occurs not just between the U.S. and China, but also respectively in their own histories, and ultimately throughout the globe.

Join us for an engaging conversation.  Brown bag lunches are welcome; light refreshments provided by the Office of the Provost.
