New Room at Wesley’s Chapel Manager Explores American Methodism Oct. 13

10.11.2011 | By:

David Worthington, manager of the New Room at Wesley’s Chapel in Bristol, England, will speak at the Willson Lecture in Lou’s Place at Texas Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.

Worthington’s topic will be “Methodism Comes to America: The Bristol Connection.” The New Room is the Oldest Chapel in the Methodist tradition. Methodism founder John Wesley came to Bristol in 1739 and preached his first open-air sermon in the area and laid the foundation stone on the New Room, making it the pivotal location in the story of Methodism.

The annual Willson Lecture Series is made possible by a gift from the late Mavis Terry Willson and the late J.M. Willson of Floydada, Texas. In 1946, the Willsons provided an endowment to bring outstanding speakers to campus. Through the years, these speakers have delivered messages that have challenged and inspired thousands of Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff.

This engaging lecture is open to the public and all are welcome. Contact Robert Kenji Flowers, university chaplain, at 817-531-4972, for more information. Lou's Place is located at the corner of Wesleyan Street and Avenue D on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University.
