Basketball season tips-off with home games on Monday, Oct. 31

Lady Rams ranked 5th in preseason poll

The Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) has released its 2016-17 Preseason Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll. Texas Wesleyan was slated 5th by the league's ten head coaches.

The Lady Rams will tip-off their season at home on Halloween when they host Texas College. That game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center. Click here for the full schedule.

Head Coach Bill Franey's squad will be led by two-time NAIA All-American and local Fort Worth product Katelynn Threats. Threats averaged 18.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season.

The Roster also features eight newcomers including five transfers and three freshmen.

Oklahoma City topped the SAC rating. The Stars received six of the nine available first-place votes and 86 total points. Defending SAC Champion Wayland Baptist was rated second and received the remaining three first-place votes.

Texas Wesleyan's votes were scattered from third to eighth on the ballots, while the fourth through seventh spots were separated by a mere four points.

The SAC will conclude the season with a championship tournament featuring the top eight teams from the regular season in a single-elimination bracket. First round games will be played at home sites on Feb. 28 before the tournament moves to Oklahoma City's Abe Lemmons Arena for the semifinal and final rounds the following weekend.

Men's basketball team ranked 3rd in preseason poll

The Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) has released its 2016-17 Preseason Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll.  Texas Wesleyan was picked to finish third by the league's ten head coaches.

The Rams are the defending SAC Regular Season Champions and one of four SAC teams to advance to the NAIA National Tournament last season.

Head Coach&nbspBrennen Shingleton's squad will tip-off the season on Halloween when they host Dallas Christian College. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. Click here for the full schedule.

The team features eight newcomers and seven returners from last season's team that finished 24-8 overall.

Defending NAIA Division I National Champion Mid-America Christian topped the SAC rating. The Evangels totaled 85 points and six first place votes. Oklahoma City was second with 78 points and two first place votes. The Rams totaled 76 points and received the remaining first-place vote.

The SAC will conclude the season with a championship tournament featuring the top eight teams from the regular season in a single-elimination bracket. First round games will be played at home sites on Feb. 28 before the tournament moves to Oklahoma City's Abe Lemmons Arena for the semifinal and final rounds the following weekend.
