Nine Ram sports teams honored as SAC announces scholar team awards

The Sooner Athletic Conference awarded its highest number of scholar team awards ever with 67 league teams collecting the accolade in 2017-18. The honor is presented to teams with 3.0 combined grade-point averages in conference-sponsored sports. Texas Wesleyan chimed in with nine teams.

Texas Wesleyan Men’s Tennis, in its first year of competition since 2001, earned the top GPA among Ram sports teams at 3.510.

The other eight teams included Women’s Golf (3.450), Volleyball (3.36), Women’s Cross Country and Track (3.233), Softball (3.221), Men’s Soccer (3.171), Baseball (3.049), Men’s Golf (3.047), Women’s Soccer (3.038).

Southwestern Christian’s women’s basketball team posted the top GPA of any league team with a 3.82 as three Southwestern Christian teams earned the top mark among their respective sports.

Oklahoma City reeled in 11 SAC scholar team awards to lead conference institutions. The Rams came in third behind WBU’s 10 teams.

The SAC bestowed the nod on nine volleyball teams for the most among all sports.
