Amber Marlett named assistant coach for softball

FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University head softball coach Shannon Gower has announced Amber Marlett as assistant coach today. Marlett rejoins the Texas Wesleyan softball program as a coach after being a dominant duel threat for the Lady Rams as a player.

“In softball, as in life, all the important things happen at home. I am humbled and excited to be back home with the Texas Wesleyan softball Ramily…Buck ‘Em!” proclaimed Marlett on her new position, “…as a former Ram softball player, I can relate to the girls because I have been in their shoes more recently than say, Gower or Esparza. I know the grind of being a student-athlete. I played for Gower for two years and know her expectations for the program. It’s a huge asset when you already have personal experience with your fellow coaches.”

Marlett earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training in 2015 and started work for Ben Hogan Sports Medicine that same year, as well as completing the necessary prerequisites for application to a graduate program with a focus as a physician’s assistant. Marlett is also a private hitting and pitching instructor.

As a player, Marlett was the quintessential duel threat in two seasons for the Lady Rams. She has a career 3.15 ERA in 224.2 innings while compiling 21 wins in 33 starts, to go along with 191 strikeouts on the mound. At the plate, Marlett holds a .364 career average, slugging .654 with 53 RBI, 15 home runs, and 17 doubles. In 2014, the right-hander finished the season with a gaudy 1.87 ERA in 142.1 innings, 14 wins, six shutouts, and 121 strikeouts. Marlett is a two-time first team All-SAC recipient and a NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Marlett resides in North Richland Hills.
