Personal Biography

Joe Allen Brown “Pro Joe” has taught at Wesleyan since 1978. During his tenure, he has served as Chair of Theatre (22 years), Dean of the School of Fine Arts (5 years), and Dean of Freshman Success (19 years). At Joe's request, in the Fall of 2019, he returned to teaching Theatre and Speech courses. In the Fall of 2021, he returned to serve as Chair for Theatre Wesleyan.

Joe is currently the senior faculty member at Texas Wesleyan. He has received the Earl Brown Faculty Award for his service and teaching and two Trustee Awards for his service to Wesleyan and his service in the community.  He has been recognized twice by the Wesleyan Alumni Association with the Wesleyan Flame Award for Service to the University and the Wesleyan Medal Award for being recognized as an Honorary Alumni of the University.

Joe has been a Texas Educational Theatre Association One Act Play judge for over 40 years and is an active Live Theatre League of Tarrant County member, previously serving as President of the organization. The Live Theatre League of Tarrant County has recognized Joe with the Elston Brooks Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions to Theatre and the Arts Advocacy Award. Joe is also the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Jubilee Theatre.

When he is not busy with Theatre Wesleyan or supporting area theatres, he is involved at home with his ten dogs, three cats, and three exotic parrots. He loves to call his house the “East Side Zoo and Animal Haven”.
