About UB Programs

Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science Programs are college preparatory programs for high school students funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored locally by Texas Wesleyan University. UB/UBMS is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of eligible high school students to excel academically and pursue postsecondary degrees in math, science or any other major.

What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound (UB) is a college preparatory program for high school students funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored locally by Texas Wesleyan University.

UB provides fundamental support to eligible participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.

What Does Upward Bound Provide?

Academic Preparation for College:

  • Academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature and foreign languages
  • Tutorials and test preparation workshops
  • Six-week summer session at Texas Wesleyan University

Educational and Career Planning:

  • Academic advising
  • Counseling and mentoring
  • College and career research/field trips
  • Cultural enrichment activities

College and Financial Aid Information:

  • Individual assistance with college admissions applications
  • Individual assistance with scholarship and financial aid applications/information
  • Individual assistance with PSAT, SAT/ACT registration applications and fee waivers
