In efforts to engage students in experiential learning, Dr. Ngozi Akinro, assistant professor of Mass Communication, took her Digital Video Production class to Evergreen Life Services.
Students had the opportunity to work with clients, film and edit videos that emphasize the activities at the developmental center.
Evergreen, which is located East of Texas Wesleyan University, provides life services to individuals with disabilities.
Lexi Barlow, a sophomore Mass communication and English major, describes the experience as a privilege. “I loved talking to all the people there and they enjoyed having us visit. The best part of my experience was showing the video my group created to everyone.”
Davonte Mitchell- Dixon, a junior and Mass communication major, mentions that “going to Evergreen was a great experience.”
In addition to video production skills, students developed their collaborative skills. They also added value through service and engagement with the community.
