Gokcen Ogruk-Maz, Ph.D., will be representing Texas Wesleyan overseas next spring after being selected as a 2021-2022 Fulbright Scholar.
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers opportunities for academics, administrators and professionals in the U.S. to teach, research and take part in professional projects abroad.
“I applied to the Fulbright scholarship program to experience another culture, form meaningful relations and connections with the international faculty and bring home this international understanding,” said Ogruk-Maz.
The associate professor of economics will be traveling to Kosovo in Southeastern Europe to teach economics courses and conduct research on Foreign Direct Investment and remittances on economic growth conditional on financial system development in Balkan countries. She hopes to work on her project with faculty members in Kosovo and will present her findings at international conferences.
Ogruk-Maz is excited to bring what she learns overseas back to her TXWES classroom.
“I will share my experience and what I have learned about Kosovar culture and economics with our faculty, students and community members. My experience in Kosovo will enhance my understanding and awareness of global issues as well as cause me to integrate more global content into classes at our university,” said Ogruk-Maz.
