What is a co-teaching model?

Co-teaching is fancy talk for hands-on experience in your field. You’re paired with a certified teacher or athletic trainer to get on-the-job training in your field. You’ll work together to complete the normal, day-to-day responsibilities of the job. For a classroom teacher, those are things like completing lesson plans, teaching lessons, grading assignments and more. For an athletic trainer, it's evaluating player injuries, treating athletes and more.

Why is co teaching important?

Now that you know the “what,” let’s talk about the “why.” Why should you care about a co-teaching model? It allows you to get more experience than traditional student teaching. You’ll know everything you need to pass your certification exams with flying colors. So, when the first day of class or practice comes, you’ll be ready.

Based on data from CREATE, an organization that tracks data on all teacher preparation institutions in Texas, the Texas Wesleyan University Teacher Preparation Program consistently produces graduates whose longevity in the classroom as teachers is greater than both the average of all Texas public universities and all Texas private universities.

Not to mention, because of their experience and expertise, kinesiology students in the athletic training program are regularly accepted to present research and case studies at regional and national professional meetings.
