Eligibility
Texas Wesleyan University and the Sumners Foundation seek dynamic and motivated students who embrace civic responsibility and will enhance the campus, community and the scholarship program through personal involvement.
Generally, students will apply in their sophomore, or second year, and retain the scholarship for their junior and senior, or third and fourth years. Students planning to transfer to Texas Wesleyan may apply, as long as they have completed 60 academic hours before the fall term in which the scholarship begins.
For applicants to be eligible, they must:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Have completed 60 academic hours by the beginning of the fall term in which the scholarship begins.
- Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
- Be in good standing with the university.
- Have a record of participation in campus or civic activities that benefit the university and/or the community at large.
- Have three to four semesters remaining at Texas Wesleyan University until graduation, beginning with the upcoming Fall semester.
Submitting Your Application
Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are due by Feb. 14, 2025.

2. After submission of the online application, you will receive an email requesting the additional items below. Please attach them to the reply email.
- Copies of community college and/or university transcript(s) reflecting all academic coursework
- Passport-type headshot photograph
- Professional resume outlining all honors and awards received, extracurricular activities and leadership and work experiences
- Essay (of no more than 750 words) narrating your personal background, extraordinary life experiences, leadership roles performed, reasons for selecting your particular field of study and your ambitions for the future
3. Choice applicants will be asked to complete a personal interview with representative trustees from the Sumners Foundation on Friday, March 28, 2025. Final selection is competitive and is determined by the strength of the application, resume, essay and personal interview with trustees.
