Doctor of Nursing Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner

You must meet the following requirements to apply for the Doctor of Nursing Practice - Family Nurse Practitioner Program:

1. A registered nurse with a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing from a program accredited by a federally recognized nurse education accrediting body
2. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in upper-level major courses and 2.8 overall
3. Successful completion with grades of “B” or higher in undergraduate Basic Statistics and Research courses
4. An unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state where clinical practicum experiences will be conducted (students licensed in states other than Texas and its compact states are advised that additional requirements for approval to complete a clinical practicum may be imposed by the state)

Applicants may be considered for conditional admission on an individual basis if they do not meet the following requirements for full admission status:

• Minimum GPA requirements of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in upper division major courses and 2.8 overall,

  and/or,

• Successful completion with a grade of “B” or higher in undergraduate Basic Statistics and Research;

To move from conditional to full admission status, a GPA of at least 3.0 must be earned in the first semester (minimum of 6 credit hours) of the program. If the GPA at the end of the first semester of the program is not at least 3.0, the student is withdrawn from the program and is not eligible to re-apply. 

Admission to the DNP-FNP program is a competitive process and is based upon a holistic review of an applicant’s unique experiences and traditional measures of academic achievement.

How do I apply?

• Priority date: May 15
• Application deadline: June 15

Apply before the priority date to have the opportunity to be in the first round of interviews and have the best chance to secure your seat in the program.

You can still apply after the priority date. If you submit your application by the first of the month, you could be interviewed the last five business days of the same month.

Classes are 100% online, but keep in mind you'll need to dedicate as much time to your studies as a traditional, face-to-face program.

In an online program, your computer is your best friend. Your computer will need to have multi-media capabilities for video, audio, live-chat and internet access. Your hardware and network are an important part of engaging with the course material, your professors and other students.

Technology Requirements:

• A computer (PC or Mac) within 3 years of age
• Windows or Mac operating system (within 3 years of release date)
• Built-in or attachable webcam (required for online proctoring services)
• Access to the Internet (Wired/Wireless) at a minimum download speed of 1.5Mbps
