Texas Wesleyan’s school of music has long been one of the university’s most highly-regarded departments. And that hasn’t changed – even in the midst of a pandemic. The alumni office invites you to take a closer look at the faculty and students that are continuing the legacy of top-tier music education with a virtual event on Thursday, Jan. 28. Mark your calendars for TXWES Behind the Scenes: Music Department, happening live on Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 28.
This special event will feature conversations with two distinguished members of our music faculty:
Jerry Bierschenk, the music department chair, has been a music educator in Texas for over 40 years. He joined the music faculty in 2007 as Director of Choral Activities. In addition to directing the choirs, he teaches Aural Skills, Composition, Voice and Conducting. He is also a featured tenor soloist and trumpeter with various groups in the community. Dr. Bierschenk is a much loved and respected figure on campus.
Paul Sikes is the Director of Instrumental Studies and Music Education and brings extensive experience and passion for music to his role at Texas Wesleyan. He heads all aspects of the instrumental program, which includes directing the wind ensemble and chamber strings. Dr. Sikes also teaches music education students and works closely with the education department to ensure TXWES graduates will be successful music teachers.
The event will also include student testimonials about their experience at TXWES and footage from recent rehearsals.
Alumni, current students, parents and prospective students will enjoy this behind the scenes look. Hope to see you there!
