Melissa (Stanford) Oden ’97 was promoted to assistant professor in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Systems at the UNT Health Science Center School of Public Health in March. After finishing her service as immediate past president of the Texas Public Health Association, she gave two presentations at the 94th Annual Education Conference in Waco, facilitated the Fellows’ Project with the Waco Police Dept. and hosted Student Hack-A-Thon.
Melissa also recently completed her work on Emergency Preparedness and Recovery: A Toolkit For Rural Communities, which was published on March 1 and now available at Planners4Health, Texas Public Health Association and Northeast Texas Public Health District. She spoke about this project at the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) Preparedness Summit in Atlanta, Georgia in April. The Toolkit was awarded a national Promising Practice Award from NACCHO. She will travel to NOLA in July to receive the award for the team.
Daphne Brookins ’01 was reappointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the OneStar National Service Commission and will serve through March 2019. She is a human services and special projects specialist with the City of Fort Worth, where she has launched local initiatives and programs for youth and adults. Daphne is also a Tarrant Change Agent, leading Fort Worth’s Rising Stars Youth Leadership Academy.
Emily (Vitek) Milutin '09 welcomed baby Josephine to the world on January 4.
Jacob Rivera-Sanchez ’15 received the Live Theatre League of Tarrant County’s Bill Garber Young Theatre Artist Award, presented by Joe Brown and Bryan Stevenson ’01. He is thankful to be a part of the Dallas-Fort Worth/Tarrant County theatre community and is proud to be among the ranks of the talented and hard-working folks in this area.
