Football at night, talented artists and a Dallas Cowboys executive highlight a busy 2018-2019 to come. We tried to put together a top 10 list, but there is so much going on that we couldn’t stop at 10! In no particular order, here at 11 things to watch out for this year:
Free food! Now that we have your attention, the place to be on Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Sid Richardson Gym for the President’s Picnic. There will be on and off-campus vendors, free t-shirts and a free barbeque buffet. So come down and meet some of your fellow Rams over a bite to eat.
The TXWES football team is back for its second season. And new this year: evening games! Three games at Fort Worth’s Farrington Field are slated for 7 p.m. starts:
Check out the full schedule, make sure to join us and bring your family for Rams football!
It won’t be hard to notice the fences along the campus mall. It may take an extra minute or two to get to class, but it will all be worth it when the Nick and Lou Martin University Center is completed in 2019. Make sure to follow the progress anytime with our time-lapse construction camera, and go on a virtual tour for a preview of what the finished Center will look like. Between meeting spaces, study spots and a place to grab a cup of coffee, this will be an awesome center for students when it’s done.
The Rosedale Renaissance continues with a new place to grab a bite coming to the corner of Wesleyan and Rosedale. Ben’s Triple B: Biscuits, Burgers, and Beer will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a great menu, a full bar and plenty of TVs for sports fans. We hope to have an opening date to announce early this fall.
We’re continuing to spread to the word about our “Smaller. Smarter” way to get an education. And that includes on TV. Check out our new online MBA commercials that are being seen here in North Texas.
On Thursday, Sept. 20, join us at Martin Hall for the reveal of our new commercials that will put an emphasis on the Smarter part of Smaller. Smarter. There will be free t-shirts too!
Break out your running shoes (and maybe a jacket.) The Wesleyan 5K returns for its third year on Saturday, Nov. 3, now part of Homecoming Weekend. Proceeds from the race benefit student scholarships. The party continues after the race with a vendor fair, food trucks, free drinks and a pre-game party before the Homecoming football game!
If you don’t want to run, that’s cool. You can still take part by volunteering.
Speaking of Homecoming, the week of events kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 30 with a lecture from one of the experts in the world of sports and marketing. Charlotte Jones Anderson, executive vice president and chief brand officer for the Dallas Cowboys will appear at Martin Hall for the 4th annual Marjorie Herrera Lewis Speakers Series.
Don’t miss this chance to get a front-row seat inside the world of America’s Team.
Since 1955, Theatre Wesleyan has brought the magic of on-stage performances to campus, while giving students the hands-on learning that sets them apart as talented on-stage actors and crew, well before they leave TXWES.
Four shows highlight Theatre Wesleyan’s current season, including a suspenseful and thrilling drama, and a rowdy award-winning puppet musical. Don’t miss performances when they start in September.
Back for a second exhibition season, the Bernice Coulter Templeton Art Studio is preparing to showcase art that will make critical thinkers out of their visitors. Enjoy the work of several different artists through the year, from August until May. You’ll also have the chance to meet the artists themselves.
There’s a new high-tech style of athlete on campus. TXWES Esports will start their first season of competition this year. They’re joining a growing trend of similar programs around Texas and around the world. There are even scholarships available, along with other opportunities for those who may want experiences in fields like marketing and event planning.
Check out the Esports website for more info on how to get involved.
Speaking of sports, Texas Wesleyan is coming off a huge year as featured in the Fort Worth Business Press. Along with success on the field, like softball player Bailey Terry’s first-team NAIA All-American selection, nearly 150 Rams were named to the Sooner Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Join us this year to cheer on our athletes, as they make us proud on and off the field.
