The long-awaited effort to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the Polytechnic Heights community through a local garden is breaking ground on the first phase at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 16.
The PolyWes Gardens organizers are looking for community and student volunteers of all ages who are willing to maintain the gardens on a weekly basis beginning after Labor Day. Weekly volunteer commitments should involve an hour or so each Saturday. Regular volunteers will be given the option to take home some of the produce but will also gain gardening expertise.
We hope to see you at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 16. Help us establish our first PolyWes Garden at Polytechnic High School by unloading dirt, mulch and other supplies as we clear the space. Registered volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and lunch, while supplies last.
To register for this event please call 817-345-0574 or email your information to info@polywesgardens.org.
PolyWes Gardens is a joint effort between Texas Wesleyan and Polytechnic High School. It was successfully spearheaded by recent Texas Wesleyan alumni Kimberly McLean and Katie Johnson. The initial phase of this southeast Fort Worth project is a small student- and volunteer-run garden located on the PolyTechnic High School campus, facing Beach Street. The purpose of PolyWes Gardens is to provide volunteers with fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs in an area with limited access to fresh produce. The goal is also to create a learning place for gardening, composting, soil, Texas weather and more through classes.
