When the money doesn't seem to stretch until the next paycheck, it's time to go to Money School – a financial planning program hosted by Texas Wesleyan University on Tuesday, March 27, and Tuesday, April 3. Attendees can go to either the two sessions from noon to 2 p.m. on those dates or the two sessions from 6 to 8 p.m.

All Tarrant County residents with an annual family income of $50,000 or less are eligible to participate in this free program. Designed to help establish a family financial plan, this program will introduce basic concepts of budgeting and credit planning. 

For those who complete both sessions, there are additional free services available, including individual one-on-one counseling, also offered on campus. Another free service is assistance with completing federal tax returns from a VITA volunteer (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance); most participants qualify for a tax refund. For those who complete additional steps, there are incentives of as much as $125. 

The United Way of Tarrant County supports Money School, with counseling provided by Catholic Charities, the City of Fort Worth and the VITA Program. Please take advantage of this free opportunity to gain an objective view of your financial situation.
