Texas Wesleyan University is proud to announce that eight faculty members received Sam Taylor Fellowships from the General Board of Higher Education & Ministry of The United Methodist Church.

 

The will of Sam Taylor set aside income from a portion of his estate to fund continuing education and development of faculty members at United Methodist-related colleges and universities in Texas. The fellowship awards total $15,413 for the following members:

 

Joe Dryden, assistant professor of education, to complete coursework requirements for the superintendent’s certification 

 

Mark Hanshaw, assistant professor of religion, to research the ways in which individuals migrate between religious traditions within the scope of a global community

 

Newt Hilliard, department chair of chemistry and biochemistry and professor of chemistry, to conduct chemistry research in order to characterize key proteins involved in the competing pathways of thiosulfate and sulfide oxidation

 

Marcel Kerr, professor of psychology, to complete an online graduate certificate in higher education administration through Cornell University

 

Laura Kunkel, instructor/clinical coordinator of ATEP, toward educational expenses related to earning her doctorate in education

 

Doug Nancarrow, professor of intercultural communications, to conduct research on the influence of the Cornish diaspora on Methodism in America

 

Phil Pelphrey, assistant professor chemistry, to conduct a study contributing to the knowledge of cyclopropane containing compounds, which have been found to have a positive pharmaceutical effect on diseases affecting the central nervous system

 

Kim Webb, assistant professor of accounting, toward her continuing coursework in the pursuit of her doctorate in business administration-accounting.
