Texas Wesleyan, the Ben Hogan Foundation and First Tee of Fort Worth partnered together on March 20 to serve the men and women of the armed services in Fort Hood with the Ben Hogan Classic Golf Tournament, presented by The Miles Foundation.
The tournament honored more than 200 soldiers and their families. In addition to golf, soldiers were presented with gifts, provided breakfast, lunch and dinner, and were treated to live entertainment. There were also several kid-friendly events for the more than 125 children in attendance. Approximately 50 volunteers from all three organizations made the trip to Fort Hood.
"It was an honor to spend the day working for the men and women of our armed services who, every day of their lives, defend the freedoms that we enjoy," Jerry Wood ’69, Texas Wesleyan board of trustees member, said. "I’m pleased to see our partnership with the Ben Hogan Foundation grow through participation in events like these."
Multiple Texas Wesleyan volunteers were present at the event, including:
Texas Wesleyan provided branded golf bags and two dozen golf balls for prizes. Jose Rolz and Colby Webb hit a drive for each group on one hole, and met and talked to all of the participants.
