Texas Wesleyan University is pleased to announce that Dr. Kent Paredes Scribner, superintendent of the Fort Worth Independent School District, will be the keynote speaker for the University's spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 13, in the MacGorman Chapel at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

At FWISD, Dr. Scribner serves more than 87,000 students and 11,000 employees. The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education brought Dr. Scribner to the District in October 2015, and he immediately began laying the groundwork for system-wide improvement and for fulfilling their mission, “Preparing all students for success in college, career, and community leadership.”

The son of college professors, Dr. Scribner began his career in education as a high school Spanish teacher and guidance counselor in Philadelphia, then became a principal and district administrator prior to serving as a superintendent in Phoenix for 13 years. Dr. Scribner earned his Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from Carleton College in Minnesota and his Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from Temple University in Pennsylvania. He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Arizona State University. Together, he and his wife Suleyka, have four children.

Texas Wesleyan will be conferring 211 undergraduate degrees and 35 graduate degrees at this year's spring commencement.
