For the third consecutive year, the Red River Athletic Conference has chosen Texas Wesleyan University for the All-Sports Award, which signifies its status as having the best all-around athletic program for 2012-2013.
“I am so proud of our student-athletes and coaches, who all worked together to achieve this honor,” Athletic Director Steve Trachier said. “We have had a great year in the RRAC and look forward to more successful years ahead.”
In 2012-2013, Texas Wesleyan finished fourth or better in all 12 RRAC sports. The Rams claimed conference championships in men’s and women’s cross country, finished as runners-up in men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and women’s track and field. Texas Wesleyan volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and men’s golf all finished third in the standings.
The top five teams among the 15 RRAC institutions are awarded points in each sport. The Rams received 86 points to claim the title, Northwood finished in second with 48 points, Our Lady of the Lake collected 44 points to place third, and Wiley finished with 32 points in fourth place. Langston, LSU-Shreveport, and St. Thomas all tied for fifth place with 28 points to round out the top five.
The 2012-2013 season is the last one for Texas Wesleyan in the RRAC. The Rams are joining the Sooner Athletic Conference next season.
