Texas Wesleyan University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ricky Dotson as athletic director. Dotson will lead all matters of athletic administration and work to grow Texas Wesleyan’s tradition of excellence in athletics and student-athlete development.
“Ricky’s experience in athletics administration, his understanding of our programs and their needs and his commitment to developing the student in ‘student-athlete’ make him a perfect fit for this role,” President Frederick G. Slabach, said. “Ricky has been a major contributor to the success of our athletic programs, both new and seasoned, and I know that they will continue to grow and thrive under his leadership.”
While serving as associate athletic director for the past year, Dotson oversaw the creation and execution of the Texas Wesleyan Football Game Day experience. Football returned to Texas Wesleyan in the fall of 2017 after a 75-year hiatus, a key part of the university’s 2020 Vision strategic plan to invigorate student engagement and enhance the student experience.
Prior to his appointment as associate athletic director, Dotson served as an assistant coach for the Texas Wesleyan men’s basketball and golf teams for five years. Before his tenure at Texas Wesleyan, Dotson amassed 20 years of experience in athletic capacities spanning coaching, administration, media relations and faculty positions.
Texas Wesleyan's athletic department includes seventeen varsity programs. The Rams enjoy great success on and off the field, with recent national championships in men's basketball and table tennis while the men and women's golf programs, as well as the baseball team, are nationally ranked. The Sooner Athletic Conference recently inducted 33 Texas Wesleyan student-athletes to the 2017-18 All-Academic team.
