Phillip Pelphrey

Associate Professor of Chemistry, Department Chair
Ella C. McFadden Science Center 310 B

Education

  • B.S. Chemistry, North Georgia College and State University (2001)
  • Ph.D. Organic Chemistry, Dartmouth College (2006)

Research Interests/Scholastic Profile

Dr. Pelphrey’s research focuses on the application of organic synthesis to biological systems. Specifically, he is interested in the synthesis of small molecules for the treatment of bacterial infections. He seeks to develop compounds that target bacterial dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), which is a key enzyme needed for cell division.

Additionally, Dr. Pelphrey is interested in pedagogical development in the undergraduate laboratory courses. He seeks to design new experimental procedures that bring together multiple chemical and biological principles.
