Undergraduate Research

Research is a great way for you to apply what you're learning in the classroom to real-world problems. In the chemistry department, you have several ways to get involved in undergraduate research. The department gets funding from organizations such as the Robert A. Welch Foundation and the United Methodist Church through the Sam Taylor Fellowships.

The University is also an institutional member of the Council on Undergraduate Research, while some faculty members hold individual memberships to specialty divisions.

Required Research

As a chemistry or biochemistry major, you're required to complete at least two semesters of undergraduate research mentored by one of your professors. This gives you the chance to take the chemistry foundation you're learning in the classroom and put it into practice in the lab.

Summer Research

Thinking of spending the summer gaining hands-on laboratory experiences? At Texas Wesleyan, the chemistry & biochemistry department offers summer research opportunities for college students. We also have paid summer research opportunities available for high school students through the American Chemical Society SEED Project sponsored by the Chemistry/Biochemistry Department.
