Internationally-renowned pianists Boaz Sharon and Pavel Nersessian will perform a duo-piano recital at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in Martin Hall. The pianists will play music by Debussy, Bizet and Prokofiev. They will perform on Texas Wesleyan’s acclaimed Steinway piano, which the university acquired in 2017 from the Van Cliburn Foundation, thanks to generous supporters and friends of the university. The recital is free and open to the public.
“Boaz Sharon and Pavel Nersessian are artists of international repute, and it is wonderful for Texas Wesleyan and the community to have them on campus,” said Ilka Araújo, associate professor of musicology. “It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear and see these performers in person, right here at Texas Wesleyan.”
Sharon and Nersessian will also give a master class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Martin Hall.

Boaz Sharon is Professor of Piano at Boston University. He is a Steinway Artist and Artistic Director of the Sichuan International Piano Festival, China.
An internationally renowned pianist and artist/teacher, he is the first prize winner and gold medalist of the Jaen International Piano Competition, Spain. A frequent judge on international competitions, he was on the juries of Top of the World Competition, Norway; Jaen International, Spain; Shanghai International E Competition; the Berliner Philharmoniker International; Rudolf Firkusny International; Prague, the Composers of Spain International Piano Competition, Madrid; Kaufman International, NYC; and Chairman of the Jury at the Sterinborgh National Competition in Xiamen, China. He also is a founder of the Liszt International Piano Competition in Moscow.
About Pavel Nersessian
“His performance brought a veritable roar of approval from the audience,” wrote the Irish Times, after Pavel Nersessian received the 1st Prize in the GPA Dublin International Piano Competition in 1991. As one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation in Russia, he is known for his ability to play equally convincingly in the whole palette of the piano repertoire. He won prizes in the Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 1985, the Paloma O’Shea Competition in Santander, and the Tokyo Competition.
Pavel Nersessian has been touring Russia and surrounding states from the age of eight, and has given performances in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Cannes, Leipzig, Vienna, Budapest, Madrid, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Dublin, Muenchen, Caracas, Rio de Janeiro, Belgrade, Cairo, Kiev, and many other cities.
