Though National Hispanic Heritage Month will soon officially draw to a close, you would not have known it at this year’s annual Michelada Festival in downtown Fort Worth, where thousands of revelers packed Main Street in celebration of Hispanic food, music, and heritage. At both ends of Main Street, stages came alive with performances by live musicians and DJs. Vendors of all kinds filled the area, offering a variety of goods ranging from clothing and handmade crafts to delicious Mexican and Central American cuisine, beer, and, of course, micheladas—a refreshing Mexican libation made with beer, lime juice, various sauces, spices, and chili peppers.

Naturally, Texas Wesleyan was not going to miss out on the fun—faculty, students, alumni, staff, and friends were on hand to meet the throngs of festivalgoers and to promote the university. The enthusiastic Ramily members engaged with attendees, sharing information about different academic programs and campus organizations as visitors queued up to enjoy a game of cornhole on the custom TXWES board and to win some TXWES swag or Mexican candy.

The event was held by the non-profit organization Connect Respect, whose founder, Patricia Castillo, is a proud two-time TXWES alumna (Patricia received her B.S. in Mass Communication in 1997 and her MBA in 2008) and member of the TXWES Alumni Association Board of Directors. Connect Respect donates a portion of the event proceeds to fund scholarships awarded by the Texas Wesleyan Alumni Association and by the Mexican American College Education Fund (MACE).
