Texas Wesleyan University

1201 Wesleyan Street, Fort Worth, TX 76105

Biography

As Fort Worth's oldest higher education institution, Texas Wesleyan University has been a staple to East Fort Worth for over 125 years. From the Great Depression to transitioning from an all-women's school to co-ed, we've stood the test of time and continue to educate generations of leaders.

Brief Timeline

  • 1890 - The Methodist Episcopal Church established Polytechnic College.
  • 1914 - The college was delegated the Women's College for Southern Methodism and named Texas Women's College.
  • 1935 - After closing down for a short period in 1931, Texas Woman's College merged with Texas Wesleyan Academy and was renamed Texas Wesleyan College.

Over the next 50 years of growth, we added graduate programs in education and nurse anesthesia, and became Texas Wesleyan University in 1989. Today, we have over 2500 students enrolled in over 40 undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Texas Wesleyan Brand

Texas Wesleyan University continues to change the way people view higher education. We’ve stuck by our branding pillars to help define who we are:

  1. Intentionally Small - Our "Smaller. Smarter." approach pushes students to think for themselves and build closer relationships with faculty members.
  2. Engaging Educators - Our professors actively participate with students, preparing them for real-world scenarios.
  3. Critical Thinkers - We pride ourselves on our emphasis of critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
  4. Movers & Shakers - Our campus is filled with future leaders who are continuously looking for ways to better themselves, the university and the community as a whole.
  5. Top-Tier Value - We provide an outstanding education at a more affordable price than most private universities.
  6. Texas-Sized Reputation - Finally, with a history that spans over 125 years, we are proud of our Texas-sized reputation.

We love sharing news and events about our "Smaller. Smarter." student body and administration. From our engaging educators to our critically thinking students, the spotlight is always shining at Texas Wesleyan University.
