Go into corporate finance 

With big companies like American Airlines, ExxonMobile and Lockheed Martin, the Dallas-Fort Worth area has great opportunities for you to go into corporate finance. You can focus on big picture money — like making recommendations on where the company should put their money as a financial analyst or taking the lead on projects as a financial manager. Or manage the everyday flow of money as a treasurer or cost analyst.  

Get your start in the real estate industry 

Want to get out of the office for a breath of fresh air? Check out the real estate industry. As a finance major, you’ll be given the (house) keys to successfully break into the industry by becoming a real estate broker or an appraiser. As a broker, you’ll help people and businesses buy properties and secure loans, and as an appraiser you’ll get to go on-site to evaluate the property to make sure your clients are getting a fair value. The industry is constantly changing, but is rewarding — both personally and financially. 

Work in commercial banking 

A job in commercial banking gives you the opportunity to learn about business and communicate with people daily. If you like helping people find solutions, becoming a commercial lender may be a career option for you. You’ll work with individuals and businesses to come up with ways to solve their debt. Or if you want a different challenge, check out becoming a branch manager. You could work at a local bank and may gain access to leadership opportunities and oversee different areas of banking. 

Get a job in the insurance industry 

You may not be able to get a career in 15 minutes or less, but a bachelor’s degree in finance can land you a job in insurance. You could: 

• Work as an underwriter to help the company decide the risk of giving someone insurance
• Help the company figure out what the future costs of insurance will be as an actuary  
• Look over vehicle accidents, housing issues and more to discover how much money someone could receive as an insurance appraiser 

Insurance can be a rewarding career — you may get to help protect people from facing difficult financial situations or if a disaster strikes. 

Get hands-on experience investing that will translate to a career 

Finance majors will have the unique opportunity to get hands-on experience at Texas Wesleyan by actively managing a portion of the University’s endowment fund.
