Know before you go: Important details for Robing, Hooding & Commencement

This spring, approximately 220 undergraduate and graduate students will begin making preparations to bid farewell to Texas Wesleyan University in a series of time-honored traditions celebrating their accomplishments.

First is , a Wesleyan Tradition since 1927 in which students honor the professor that has had the most impact on their Wesleyan experience by asking them to robe and hood the student. Second is the Commencement Ceremony, the official conferring of an academic degree upon the graduating student in front of cheering family and friends.  

As we approach Robing, Hooding and Commencement, there are a few important details students and faculty members need to know prior to the ceremonies.

Robing Convocation

Students get their graduation robes at the December 2014 robing ceremony.All faculty are welcome to come to the robing ceremony, but only faculty who have agreed to robe a student are expected and required to be in attendance. Tickets are not required for the participating graduates and faculty members.

When and Where:

11 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015

Students Instructions:

  • Arrive at 10:15 a.m. in the McFadden Science Lecture Theater (SLT) where they will be placed in order and receive final instructions.
  • Bring robe and hood, no cap.

Faculty Instructions:

  • Arrive at 10:15 a.m. in the hallway of the McFadden Science Lecture Theater (SLT) and the processional will leave at 10:45 a.m.
  • Please wear all academic regalia except mortar boards and tams.

Please note: Caps and cords are not needed for robing or hooding.

Hooding Convocation

All faculty are welcome to come to the hooding ceremony, but only graduate faculty members are expected and required to be in attendance. Tickets are not required for participating graduates and faculty members.

  • Arrive at 5:15 p.m. in the McFadden Science Lecture Theater (SLT) where they will be placed in order and receive final instructions.
  • Bring your robe; hoods will be received when you check in for the ceremony.

Faculty Instructions:

  • Arrive at 5:15 p.m. in the hallway of the McFadden Science Lecture Theater (SLT) and the processional will leave at 6:45 p.m.
  • Please wear all academic regalia except mortarboards and tams. 
  • If you are a faculty member who is not robing and/or hooding a student but wish to attend, please contact Amber Coronado so you can be included in the line up.

Please note: Caps and cords are not needed for robing or hooding.

Commencement Ceremony

When and Where:

10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary — MacGorman Chapel
4616 Stanley Ave
Fort Worth, TX 76115

Students and Faculty:

  • Student check-in is located at the Riley Alumni Center, 1700 West Fuller Avenue.
  • Students should park in the south parking lot of the Riley Alumni Center (PL-19) and enter through the south facing doors.
  • Students should arrive no later than 8:45 a.m. to check in and prepare for line up. This is a large venue, and we will have to move our lines a great distance, so it is very important to be on time.
  • All academic regalia is required for Commencement.

Families and Guests:

  • Family and guests should proceed directly to MacGorman Chapel.
  • Doors will open at 9:15 a.m. to begin seating. Saving seats after 9:45 a.m. will be prohibited.

Parking Information and Map:

There are two parking lots directly behind the chapel. There will be a sign leading you to the entrance as well as student volunteers.
